FAQs: Having your baby privately

How much does having your baby privately in the UK cost?

Every hospital is different so there unfortunately isn’t a fixed price. However it is fair to say that the cost of having your baby privately starts at around £6000 and could go upwards of £20,000 depending on the options you choose when it comes to how you want to give birth, for example, if you want to have an obstetrician led birth, a C section, how many nights you spend in the hospital, extra baby checks/scans/blood tests.

If you would like a more specific quote tailored to you, then get in touch and I can talk you through what options you have, different hospital costs and what the final amount is likely to be.

What is the difference between private maternity and having your baby on the NHS?

The main reason for going private is to get ‘more personalised medical care’, and a desire for additional comfort. If you have consultant led care, you will see the same consultant at all appointments which lots of parents find comforting. When you give birth you will have your own ensuite bedroom and brilliantt aftercare for 6 weeks after your birth.

Which hospital is the best when it comes to having your baby privately?

Every hospital has it’s different pros and cons and it really comes down to what is important to you. The Portland, The Kensington Wing and The Lindo Wing are without a doubt the best maternity hospitals in the UK. If you are confused about which hospital is right for you, then I can get to know what you are looking for, and recommend the perfect place for you to deliver your baby.

Can I have a C section if I have my baby privately?

You will probably be able to jump through far less hoops to have a C section privately than you would on the NHS.

Can I still have midwife led care at a private hospital?

Absolutely! You can choose between midwife or consultant led care.
